Have you decided to update your bathroom or renovate your out-dated kitchen? Perhaps, you want to add a small shop in your backyard. The one decision that you should make no matter how big or small the job is hiring a licensed contractor to do the work for you.
You may think that you can do the work yourself. You’ve put together some shelves before, right? The risk is what if something goes wrong? Even worse…what if something goes wrong but you have a very specific budget that didn’t take the mistake into account. This could cause serious issues. Another, not-so-great option is that you find someone to do the work for you, but this person isn’t licensed. What could go wrong, right?
Here are a few reasons why you should hire licensed contractors:
1. IT’S A REQUIREMENT.
The state of Louisiana requires a building contractor be registered if construction work exceeds $75,000.00. Home improvement and repair contractor limits are between 7,500.00 and $75,000.00. If a repair or improvement exceeds this limit, the home improvement contractor must register as a building contractor.
2. A LICENSED CONTRACTOR GETS THE JOB DONE EFFICIENTLY AND SYSTEMATICALLY.
A licensed contractor will provide a professional, planned out process to your building project and communicate with you throughout. They know the sequence in which things should be done which eliminates any backtracking and extra expenses.
3. CITY OR GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS WILL BE MET.
A licensed contractor will know how to comply with safety regulations, city ordinances, and permits the city will require. As such, you should feel better knowing that everything goes smoothly when your home is inspected. Also, if you decide to sell in the future, you may be asked to provide those permits and if you did not get a licensed contractor who was familiar with the processes, you may end up with nothing to give them.
These are just a few reasons why a licensed contractor is the best route to go to insure your project is in good hands.
